Once upon a time, many years ago the melodic sound of the flute was heard all over this land. The first Americans played flutes for courtship, entertainment and worship. Making and playing a flute was a right of passage and was embraced by many of the People. The flute was also used for hunting and for signaling. They were a very spiritual people who understood that we do not live here by accident.

Welcome to Cedar Winds Flutes where our love of the courting flute and its haunting music, as well as our respect of Native Americans, are the driving force behind our efforts. Our handmade flutes are Native American style flutes that commemorate the Native American flutes of centuries past. Explore our website and find native flutes that range from cedar flutes bamboo flutes to transverse flute and five hole flute instruments. You'll find more than just a wooden flute -- the flute you choose will be a hardwood flute creation that you'll cherish for life. If you'd like a more modest starter flute before moving up to one of these hardwood creations, we also offer starter plastic flutes in several colors as well as beginner's. These are great for beginning flautists of all ages.

My wife Sandy and I started this journey several years ago, (it seems like only yesterday) when we purchased our first flute at a local powwow and learned to play a couple of tunes. I recorded those tunes, and looking back I'm glad I did. Before we knew it we owned seven flutes in different keys. We have been blessed to play the flute in church, at nursing homes, even at funerals.

At one of the area powwows I bought a flute kit. I put it together and sanded it on a belt sander, then proudly showed my rough sanded flute to my wife. She went to work and finished it to make our first flute a work of art.

We still operate that way today. I make a flute and tune it, then I hand it off to my wife for her to finish. (funny, they sound better when there're finished). Through study and trial we've been able to develop a flute anyone would be proud to own. We do not make a cookie cutter flute. Each of our flutes is carefully hand crafted and cared for, giving each one a voice of its own. Are you looking for bamboo flute music or other flute tablature? You'll find these items here as well. We appreciate your visit, and look forward to serving you.

We are proud of our flutes and want buyers to enjoy them. Therefore we also include an introduction booklet and CD with every flute we sell. This teaches you how to hold your flute and how to play the scale. The scale can be heard on the CD. We start you out with a simple tune, "Mary Had a Little Lamb" to build confidence. I talk about playing an improv of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" that you can hear on the CD. I also talk about playing Heart Music. My wife Sandy plays Heart Music on the CD. The booklet includes a finger chart, or tablature to play "Amazing Grace". These booklets and cd's are not for sale, but comes free with your flute.
